Cinnamon Salt Dough Recipe
2 Cups Flour
1 Cup Salt (Use Kosher if you want a coarser look)
1/2 Cup Cinnamon
1 TBS Corn Starch
3/4 to 1 Cup Warm Water
Fragrance Oil (Optional)
Sift all of the dry ingredients together and then add the warm water a little at a time until you get the right consistency. If it's too sticky, add a little more flour. If you find it too crumbly, add a little more water.
Knead for about 5-10 minutes until dough is smooth but if you are using Kosher salt, it will be somewhat lumpy. Then let is sit for about 30 minutes in a zip loc bag or plastic container with a lid.
After 30 min. have past, roll out to desired thickness 1/4 to 3/4 and start cutting shapes with cookie cutters.
Dry them in the oven at a low temp of 150 degrees. Or you can dry on a cookie sheet turning them twice a day. It usually take about 3-4 days to air dry, but can take longer depending on the thickness of the ornie.
You can wax dip them or use Modge Podge and brush all over them to give them a waxy look.
Hot Point!!!! If you are planning on hanging these, be sure to use a straw to poke your hole thru while they are still in the dough state.
Primitive Rusting
This recipe will rust bells, safety pins or other tin items needed for a primitive aged look. Be sure and purchase the cheap inexpensive bells, pins etc as the others have a coating on themand will not rust without removing the coating. The brass bells and pins are not good either as they will take considerably longer to rust with more attempts.
This rusting technique should be done outside for ventilation.
Never leave any mixture aroundchildren or pets.
